چکیده

This article highlights our recent achievement on directing nanoparticles to selfassemble at the water/oil interface. We demonstrate that the contact angle of 90u is prerequisite for nanoparticles to localize at the interface, which is determined by the terminal groups of the capping ligands. With this peculiar surface wettability, nanoparticles of different sizes and chemical composition may self-assemble into homogeneous or composite thin films at the water/oil interface. The interfacially active nanoparticles may be employed to stabilize water-in-oil or oil-in-water droplets, creating the microcapsules whose shells are composed of randomly close packed nanoparticles. The permeability of the resulting microcapsules is defined by the sizes of the nanoparticles used.

Ordering of Disordered Nanowires: Spontaneous Formation of Highly Aligned, Ultralong Ag Nanowire Films at Oil–Water–Air Interface

One-dimensional nanomaterials and their assemblies attract considerable scientific interest in the physical, chemical, and biological fields because of their potential applications in electronic and optical devices. The interfaceassembly method has become an important route for the self-assembly of nanoparticles, nanosheets, nanotubes, and nanorods, but the self-assembly of ultralong nanowires ...

Self-assembly and redox induced phase transfer of gold nanoparticles at a water-propylene carbonate interface.

Citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles were found to spontaneously self-assemble into a lustrous film at a bare water-propylene carbonate interface after vigorous shaking, due to the extremely low interfacial tension. The presence of an electron donor, tetrathiafulvalene, in the oil phase, led to the extraction of particles into the organic phase.

A Facile Approach of Thin Film Coating Consisted of Hydrophobic Titanium Dioxide over Polypropylene Membrane for Membrane Distillation

In this work, the hydrophobic modification of TiO2 nanoparticles (HTiO2) was carried out by reacting with dodecylphosphonic acid (DDPA) and hexylamine solution. A facile approach of the self-assembly technique was used for the coating of hydrophobic HTiO2 layer over the microporous polypropylene (PP) membrane. The self-assembled layer was formed between the interface of trimesoyl chloride (TMC)...

Revealing the interfacial self-assembly pathway of large-scale, highly-ordered, nanoparticle/polymer monolayer arrays at an air/water interface.

The pathway of interfacial self-assembly of large-scale, highly ordered 2D nanoparticle/polymer monolayer or bilayer arrays from a toluene solution at an air/water interface was investigated using grazing-incidence small-angle scattering at a synchrotron source. Interfacial-assembly of the ordered nanoparticle/polymer array was found to occur through two stages: formation of an incipient random...

Structure of Microparticles and Nanoparticles in Solid-Stabilized Emulsions

Emulsions of oil and water stabilized by adsorbed solid particles are known as solid-stabilized emulsions (often referred to as Pickering emulsions). Using confocal microscopy and environmental transmission electron microscopy, we have studied the self-assembly of colloidal-sized polystyrene particles and alkanethiol-capped silver nanopaticles in Pickering emulsions. Colloidal samples of monodi...
